SEO Manager

Our SEO Manager will manage multiple nonprofit client relationships and work across different Whole Whale teams and projects. With a focus on search engine optimization, content marketing, and information architecture, you will work closely with the Content and Analytics teams to create data-driven content strategies and support website redesigns and relaunches with SEO best practices. This position will constantly be asking “How can we improve the structure and quality of search-facing content?” The preferred location for this role is Whole Whale’s HQ in DUMBO, Brooklyn – though we are open to remote employees for a good fit.

Responsibilities

Search Engine Optimization

  • Aid in SEO keyword research and content modeling for WW and our clients
  • Create and present data-driven content marketing strategies for client implementation, including outlining editorial calendars to drive content production
  • Audit client websites for technical SEO elements and provide recommendations for addressing high-priority errors and issues
  • Architect taxonomy for content libraries on websites to enhance content discovery through both navigation and search
  • Create and present information and strategies for improving client structured data and search snippet performance; implement schema on client websites
  • Find insights in Organic traffic using Google Analytics and other available data
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends in on-page and off-page SEO best practices and share learnings with the WW Content/SEO teams

Client Account Management

  • Serve as the main point of contact for 3-5 nonprofit clients; lead regular meetings, set client expectations, provide email support, present reports and deliverables, and communicate progress on projects
  • Provide a 30K foot view for clients to best leverage Whole Whale’s digital marketing capabilities to help them make progress towards their impact goals; translate client goals into tasks that can be supported by the broader Whole Whale team
  • Lead project management for assigned clients; define project objectives, set timelines, and work with team members to delegate work relevant to their expertise to meet project milestones and deadlines
  • Be a partner and advocate for clients internally and find ways to deliver quality service and support, exceed their expectations, and increase their digital impact
  • Lead web video and in-person trainings and presentations on topics related to SEO, content marketing, and other areas of expertise

 

Qualifications

  • Do-er with a desire to learn — Seriously, we know that everyone starts from somewhere and we’re interested in people eager to learn
  • Experience managing client and/or partner relationships
  • Strong understanding of SEO and content marketing best practices
  • Fluency with SEO tools (e.g. Moz, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, Google Trends)
  • Familiarity with structured data/schema strategies and common implementation tactics

Salary + Benefits

Salary for this role is $56,000 with possible room for negotiation depending on experience.

Every full-time hire undergoes a three-month “swim test” but is eligible to enroll in core benefits like health, vision, and dental care right away. At the end of three months, if we are the right fit for each other, you’ll unlock access to all of Whole Whale’s awesome benefits for full-time employees including: 

    • Annual profit share: A percentage of profits are shared as a 401k distribution to full-time employees who qualify. This has historically equated to approximately 10% of base salary.
    • Health, vision, dental care: Health, vision, and dental premiums fully covered in one option along with additional plans to meet your needs.
    • Unlimited PTO: Minimum of 10 vacation or sick days must be taken each year. We count work getting done – not working days. 
    • Commission: Whalers can earn a 5% commission fee up to $5,000 for any new business they generate.
    • Technology budget: New Whalers get a $1,200 tech setup budget for a computer and equipment as needed. Presently, Whole Whale is also providing extra equipment to facilitate work-from-home productivity.
    • Learning budget: $1,000 a year to spend on approved educational activities, books, classes, or conferences. We’re serious about learning. 
    • Wellness budget: $150 a year to spend on enhancing your physical and mental wellbeing.

Director of Strategy and Partnerships

If you are passionate about bringing people together to create impact through digital campaigns, this could be your next role. As the Director of Strategy and Partnerships, you will report directly to the C-suite and play a key role growing the company. Internally, you will mentor staff to advance in their careers while providing strategic digital directions for our nonprofit clients. Externally, you will foster and further relationships with nonprofits and companies in the impact space to share knowledge and build partnerships. When our office reopens, you will collaborate with the team from our HQ in Brooklyn, NY.

Responsibilities

Account Leadership + Campaign Strategy 

  • Serve as the main point of contact for 2-4 large accounts
  • Nurture client relationships, identify digital strategies to help them meet their impact goals, and guide team to deliver on recommendations
  • Drive strategic planning for campaign projects, from ideation to creative concepts, to sustainably help clients meet their goals 
  • Manage the execution of multi-channel digital marketing campaigns across internal teams by collaborating with service leads in analytics, content, tech, and advertising
  • Research and experiment with new technologies and platforms to apply to client campaigns

Management + Team Growth

  • Manage and mentor 2-4 direct reports, providing them with feedback and trajectory for growth
  • Identify gaps in staffing and manage parts of the recruiting process, advancing our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Manage assigned internal budgets to ensure company’s financial health

Business Development + Partnerships

  • Represent Whole Whale at conferences and industry events, including but not limited to speaking engagements, networking opportunities, and event hosting

Qualifications

  • At least 4-7 years of experience; 2+ years of agency/related account management experience
  • Experience in a senior role managing and mentoring internal team members while overseeing multiple client projects
  • A solid track record of setting campaign direction and managing execution across digital service areas
  • Exceptional communications skills with a strong understanding of persuasion frameworks; ability to explain strategic approaches and guide clients through difficult decisions
  • Solid networking foundation, with a keen interest in building relationships within the nonprofit and tech community
  • Experience with Google Analytics and a data-driven mindset

Location: Currently, our entire team is working remotely with plans to reopen our office in Brooklyn, NY when it is safe to return, approximately in late 2021 or early 2022. Digital Marketing Fellow

Whole Whale’s Fellowship Program helps prepare recent graduates and young professionals for full-time employment in the nonprofit and social impact sector by providing hands-on experience and skill-building with digital marketing. The Digital Marketing Fellow for Winter/Spring 2021 will focus on developing skills in digital advertising, search engine optimization, content marketing, and more.

Whole Whale’s Digital Marketing Fellowship is a 4 month program, where fellows are expected to work 4 days per week (days flexible) remotely until it is safe to return to our office in Brooklyn. Fellows will earn a weekly stipend of $480/week.

Following the completion of their Fellowship program, Fellows will have the opportunity to apply for a full-time role with Whole Whale, dependent on performance and client needs. We’d like to consider candidates who have an interest in possibly joining our team full-time.

Responsibilities 

Responsibilities will vary depending on individual project assignments and needs, but core responsibilities are likely to include:

SEO + Content Marketing

  • Write and edit digital content (e.g. web content, blog posts, or email) for both Whole Whale and client websites
  • Aid in SEO keyword research and content modeling for WW and our clients
  • Find insights in client web traffic using Google Analytics and other available data

Digital Advertising + Social Media

  • Help plan and execute Facebook, YouTube, Google and other digital advertising campaigns for WW and clients (with a careful eye on every detail and checkbox)
  • Think creatively to develop new campaign ideas and A/B tests to optimize for ad success, including updates to ad copy, images, and audience targeting
