181: How we lost a staff member due to H-1B Policy

In this internal Whole Whale episode, we talk with Rhea Bhambhani our Ads and Analytics Whaler. We discuss her time at Whole Whale, what she has learned and what the impact of the U.S. H-1B policy. Though Whole Whale has won past petitions for H-1B’s, the hostile current climate has stacked the odds too far and we lost in our attempt to add talent to our team. 

We discuss how xenophobic H-1B policies staff and small companies that depend on this diversity of talent.

Rhea joined Whole Whale as an Advertising and Analytics Whaler. In this role, she will plan and execute digital advertising campaigns for WW and clients, be an internal expert on impact measurement and data analytics, and create recommendations and training documents for clients. 

Originally from Mumbai, India, Rhea pursued an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Mumbai. She came to the United States to pursue the public diplomacy program at Syracuse University. Under this program, she received an M.A. in International Relations and an M.S. in Public Relations. During this time Rhea also worked as a communications intern at the International Crisis Group, a conflict prevention and resolution advocacy organization in Brussels, Belgium. She also worked as a Research Assistant at the Fund for Peace in Washington DC in the Spring of 2019. 

When she’s not in the office, Rhea’s either reading, people-watching, at pottery, or trying new food.
